In recent days, the municipal solid waste management has became a challenging and critical task to the world wide urban authorities due to the increased population and consumerism. The varieties of solid waste are increasing and posing a severe pollution problems on the land resources. The availability of landfills are decreasing and imposing a threat on the surrounding environmental resources. Proper knowledge on the solid waste segregation, treatment procedures reduces the impacts on humans and environment. Therefore, this book is timely in bringing together the municipal solid waste compositions and characterization, .their collection, transportation and treatment procedures to achieve sustainable waste management.

Thus the first part of the book (Chapter-1) deals with solid waste introduction and their types; the second part (Chapters-2) concerns the components and characterization of municipal solid waste, the third part (Chapters-3) concerns the collection and transportation procedures of solid waste, and the last part (Chapters-4) focuses on treatment and disposal methods of municipal solid waste and their environmental aspects.

I am deeply grateful to faculty and reviewers who have suggested changes for this book. We strongly believe that this book will greatly catalyze research in this key field in the forthcoming years for the benefit of our Society. Have a nice read!
