The first edition of the monograph on “Immune mechanistic interventions for immune modulation and boosting” deals with the basics of immune response and the impact on human health and the prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases. This monograph is a bird’s view of the response to pathogen. The true impact of autoimmunity is more fully appreciated than ever and we now recognize that inflammation plays a major role in many diseases like cancer and viral diseases as well. It also discusses important infectious diseases, using an organ system approach.

These challenges demand a redoubled effort to more fully understand the basis of the immune response and to learn how it can be mobilized or inhibited. Innovative approaches for the development of new vaccines are needed. The monograph quickly acquaints readers with natural immune responses manifesting in diseases and disorders. The book presents a complete picture of natural defenses to infectious agents, as well as the mechanisms that lead to autoimmune dysfunction. In addition, it examines sulphated polysaccharides and natural immune modulators which enable to boost immunity. The monograph is aimed at researchers, postgraduates, or any scientifically inclined reader interested in immunology. No prior expertise in medical, biochemical, or cellular science is needed to benefit from the clear presentation of immunology concepts in this book.

I welcome comments by readers of this monograph for ways to improve the book and to increase its value. Such suggestions will be seriously considered in the preparation of subsequent editions.

The Human immune system is a complex system and understanding its intricate pathways is a herculean task. The major characteristic of this immune system is to differentiate between their cells and foreign cells. Immune system presumes various types of cells, tissues, and organs. Primary cells are synthesized in bone marrow and thymus, where the secondary lymphoid organs produced from a lymph node, spleen, tonsils, and circulate in the body for a lifetime. Phagocytic cells such as macrophages, monocytes, and neutrophils, are one of the important primary barriers of the immune system; it will engulf the microbial cell or foreign molecules digests and excrete. It is imperative to understand and decipher the mechanism of shielding of the human body against the pathogens insult. The weapons of the immune system generated against the pathogen attack are elucidated. The immune boosters from natural resources like plants and marine sources play a vital role in boosting the immune system and thereby raising the body’s army against the pathogenic microbial plethora of enemies. This review deals with deciphering the mechanism and understanding their pivotal role in the body’s defence .Along with exploring the potential phyto based and marine based immune boosters, which could pave way for strengthening the defence mechanism of the body.
