Abstract
The present study shows the effect of the ethanol extract of Culcasia falcifolia in the restoration of neurotransmitter levels in Pentylenetetrazole induced seizure of mice brain tissue. Culcasia falcifolia is a medicinal plant which is traditionally used in Nandi County, Kenya in the treatment of epilepsy. According to the study's findings, ethanol extract of Culcasia falcifolia at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight considerably increased the level of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA. It also demonstrated a significant increase in the levels of dopamine, noradrenaline, and serotonin when compared to the seizure control group (PTZ treated group) and was nearly equivalent to the control group. The ethanol extract of Culcasia falcifolia exhibited antiepileptic activity by reducing mice's vulnerability to seizures brought on by pentylenetetrazole and restoring the levels of GABA, serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline in their brains.
