The book, ‘Fundamentals of conflict management’ is intended to assist senior human capital practitioners and business management to develop their expertise, knowledge and skills in dealing with conflict at their organisations. The fundamental message of this book is accomplishing organisational effectiveness and competitiveness through effective conflict management strategies and systems at workplaces. The book provides managers with full and practical information on conflict management principles, concepts and strategies, with an emphasis on how to utilise the knowledge and concepts to improve workplace industrial relations, peace and tranquillity at the workplace. The book provides consolidated information about Conflict Management and makes the knowledge of management of conflict accessible to managers, supervisors, organisational development partners and marginalised groups of people throughout the world.  Because of the emphasis and perspective it takes, it makes it most appropriate to human resource and organisational development practitioners. The book is very useful to managers, workers and organisational behaviour specialists working in governmental organisations, the profit and not-for-profit organisations.

As a lecturer, it is not only my desire to provide more literature about conflict management that drives me to undertake this journey, but the need to provide practical solutions and strategies that transform dysfunctional conflict into constructive conflict and promote organisational competitiveness. This book is a result of intensive study on organisational behaviour, particularly conflict management and practical management experience on account of being the founding lecturer and chairman of the department of human resource management, dean of the Julius Nyerere School of Social Sciences at Great Zimbabwe University, chairman of various university and community development committees, board member of various corporates and director of various projects.  The book's chapters covered the nature of conflict, forms of conflict, theories of conflict, causes and effects of conflict, and conflict handling strategies. Furthermore, it presented information on how conflict management affects organisational competitiveness, efficiency and effectiveness and to what extent it promotes good workplace industrial relations in various businesses. It should however, be noted that this material is not meant to substitute any other text material, but merely to supplement it by giving practical examples and solutions to conflicts.
