From time immemorial mankind is trying to understand his surroundings - amongst which - besides the countryside, the Sun, the Moon, the planets, the blinking stars, the shooting stars and the rare sight of colossal comets have been witnessed with immense awe and interest by the sky watchers of all ages. The adventures with the sky have given mankind a deep insight on our cosmic surroundings and existence. In embarking upon such a venture of enormous dimension, it is needless to say that in most of the cases success could only be achieved after several faltering steps which required conquering of many misgivings and delusions on popular notions. The author’s passion for comprehending his cosmic existence to a great extent has been accentuated by the achievements and failures of his illustrious predecessors. Hence, if this book deserves any credit, the lion’s share of it should go to the author’s predecessors, who had toiled much harder than the author in their cherished pursuits of unlocking the cosmic mysteries. The author is indebted to all his predecessors including many unknown giants and pathfinders. Besides, it is owing to the brilliant work conducted by the scientists of various space missions, especially the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of USA, the author could undertake this challenging task. The author would like to emphasize that some of his views discussed in the book are not in agreement with the prevalent popular concepts and, therefore, for a comparative appraisal, along with the author’s interpretation, the prevalent concepts have also been presented. The author pleads that the verdict regarding his views should be decided after a thorough analysis and comprehensive investigation and not in the way some of the concepts on earth and planetary sciences have been accepted in the past without scrutiny.

The present book has been written aiming to understand the planets of the Solar System, as well as, the ruler of that system – the Sun - which is the star nearest to us. In this book the author has pointed out that many of our concepts and axioms which are extensively applied in Earth and Planetary sciences and have been considered to be authentic and of paramount importance, require sensible evaluation, modification, and revision and in certain cases total rejection in the interest of science. Meaningful and judicious upgrading and circumspective analysis of our previous thinking may compel us to unlearn many well known concepts of Earth sciences which are considered pertinent to the planetary sciences as well. One of the prime objectives of the book is to utilize the rich scientific heritage developed through protracted studies by the scientists from various parts of the globe in an honest and meaningful manner avoiding fairy tale-like imagination and dogma.

The present study considers that all planetary bodies including the Sun are composed of similar substances, like mantle and iron core with silicate crust and a void zone at the interior opened up owing to expansion in most of the planets. The study is based on Earth expansion theory which essentially envisages that the Earth and other planets were originally covered with a silicate crust and were of smaller dimension and devoid of oceans. As the original crust was devoid of oceans, ocean-forming water at that stage must have been associated with the mantle of the respective planets, thereby turning that geosphere considerably fluid and suitable for expansion. It was due to gravitational pull of an external planetary object expansion of the planet took place with formation of a void zone in the interior of the planet. Over the surface of the planet too major changes occurred like fragmentation of the supercontinent, formation of continents, mid-oceanic ridges and ocean basins. In the interior of the planet, owing to occurrence of a void zone between the mantle and the inner core, an additional force of gravitational attraction in opposite or reverse direction was initiated. Consequently, due to occurrence of reverse gravity temperature and pressure at deeper part of the planet would be sufficiently low and, consequently, the planet’s solid inner core would be a magnet.

Retrograde rotation of Venus has been attributed in the present study to be caused owing to 180O rotation of the planet in response to external magnetic influence of a planetary body when the former planet’s magnetic inner core was attached with its mantle, namely, in the initial unexpanded stage of the planet.

The exceptionally large planets situated far away from the Sun like, Jupiter and Saturn, which are considered in the prevalent concept as gas giants are also composed of rocky mantle, void zone and solid iron core at the inner-most zone with magnetic characteristics. Unusually light overall density of these planets has been caused due to their exceptionally large expansion and not owing to presence of hydrogen and helium.

The objects occurring in the Asteroid belt have been postulated in the present study to be the remnants of two planets, broken down due to collision.

The ruler of the Solar System, the Sun, though of colossal dimension, is akin to the planets, especially, in regard to the composition. The perfectly global or rounded shape of the Sun indicates that it must be composed of a sold part in its interior and a fluid zone. Exceedingly high temperature at the deep interior of the Sun, postulated in the prevalent concept, does not match with its surface temperature.

The planet Earth - which could be studied with great detail, have shown that magnetic properties like polar wandering and pole reversal can also be cogently explained with the present thesis. It has been elucidated that with development of a void zone in the deep interior of the planet, its magnetic inner core hang around in a suspended state inside the void geosphere. At that stage, in response to external magnetic influences, the magnetic inner core of the planet could execute smooth movements giving rise to polar wandering and pole reversal which have been precisely documented in the iron bearing sedimentary rocks of the planet.
