Abstract

Composite hybrid sandwich material is one of the very important inventions in the field of Composites. Its layerd construction (face sheet, core and adhesive) and stressed skin model makes it most versatile for Aerospace, automobile, marine and other industries. Sandwich Composites with core as Honeycomb structures could be natural or man-made structures with high strength to weight ratio. Generally, honeycomb is used with face sheets which help in compression load distribution over the sheet area. In this chapter we are comparing the mechanical properties for face sheet made up of CFRP and Al 3003, keeping core as Al honeycomb in order to arrive at optimal combination of composites to provide best flexural strength, lesser strain and more resistance to delamination, while subjecting the specimen sandwich composite to three most common form of structural loading . ANSYS software has been used to perform Finite Element analysis due to its versatility, multiple solver technology and dynamic Mesh adaption. The obtained results have been discussed and conclusion are put forth alongwith future scope of work.
