Abstract

This chapter evaluates the impact of a program that constructed modern infrastructure school on school participation and test scores in Ecuador. The program started in 2008 and consisted of constructing modern, big and very functional schools with adequate school inputs such as laboratories, libraries, and modern classrooms. By using various estimation techniques on panel data, we show that the program has a significant effect on math. However, we find no impact either on language or on school participation. The impact on math is not significant during the first year, it is very large during the second year, and finally disappears in the third year.
