Abstract

Attempt to carry out preliminary assessments of suitable sites for nuclear power plant (NPP) in Nigeria, devoid of seismic shock and related earthquake hazard with the aid of ARC MAP and Crisis software, shows that there could be some similarities in the obtained results of the utilized software. It is therefore suggested that the two approaches or techniques can be used simultaneously to achieve quality results and sometimes under severe constraint conditions independently, in order to achieve the same goal. Considering the emphases of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on seismic hazard evaluation and assessment of a potential nuclear power plant site. Bearing in mind that not all region of the world is seismogenic in nature: some are none, while some are moderate and highly seismogenic. This paper proposes an alternative approach of carrying out a Probabilistic Seismic Hazard assessment of an aseismic and moderately seismogenic region, using ARC-MAP GIS software.
