Ethics in the Development of Biosciences and Biotechnology

Abstract

Biotechnology is the application of biosciences and one of the modern technologies in the field of biology, including in agriculture. The development of biotechnology is beneficial for human health and medicine, increasing livestock and fish populations, and increasing agricultural production such as corn and rice. Since the discovery of Dolly the sheep cloning in 1997 and IVF technology, ethics in biotechnology (bioethics) has become a topic of discussion. Bioethics is a science that seeks to resolve moral conflicts that arise in practice, medical practice, and the life sciences. As a rational ethics, bioethics originates from the analysis of scientific, biological and medical data. Religionists, ethicists, and NGOs continue to criticize biotechnology products, and biotechnologists continue to work, because everything that happens in this world is God's will. The novelty of this study is that the discourse on the pros and cons of biotechnology products between religious groups, ethicists and NGOs on the one hand and biotechnological groups and the public on the other hand will never end. Both parties continue to work, because the role of the two groups is needed in the development of biotechnology.
