Abstract

This study investigates the effects of loads on the flow of power in a power system. We examined the effects on both the voltage nodes and the lines used to transmit active and reactive power, as well as the loss of active and reactive power experienced by our system as a result.Load Flow Analysis or Power Flow Analysis is the most crucial tactic to exploring problems in power system operating and planning. Based on a specified generating state and transmission network structure, load flow analysis solves the steady operation state with node voltages and branch power flow in the power system. Load flow provides sinusoidal steady state of complete system – real and reactive power generated, voltages and absorbed and line losses. Since the load is a static quantity and it is the power that flows through transmission lines it is also known as Power Flow studies.

Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System (FACTS) devices are found to be encouraging in improving voltage stability limit of power systems. This paper investigates the application of FACTS devices (SVC) on a 9-bus multimachine power system, for know the line losses and improving voltage stability limit. Amount of increased reactive power generation and line losses are taken as indicators of stressed conditions of a power system. The using of SVC is identified with software’s: POWERAPPS and ETAP. Both software are used for IEEE 9 bus test system and the results obtained are interpreted.
