Abstract

Pediatric renal trauma encompasses a spectrum of injuries ranging from minor contusions to severe lacerations, often resulting from blunt or penetrating mechanisms. Management of these injuries presents unique challenges due to anatomical differences, physiologic considerations, and potential long-term sequelae in growing children. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of pediatric renal trauma, including epidemiology, mechanisms of injury, diagnostic modalities, classification systems, and management strategies. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of accurate diagnosis, appropriate risk stratification, and tailored therapeutic interventions to optimize outcomes while minimizing complications. Additionally, the chapter explores emerging trends in nonoperative management, minimally invasive techniques, and long-term renal function preservation. By elucidating the nuances of pediatric renal trauma management, this chapter aims to guide clinicians in delivering evidence-based, multidisciplinary care to pediatric patients with renal injuries.
