Dr. Him Lal Shrestha

He has earned his PhD degree in Environmental Science in 2015 from Kathmandu University at Dhulikhel, Nepal. He has also completed his Master's degree in Geo-informatics. By training, he is a forester as he has completed his under-graduate in Forestry. He has long experience working in academics and development partners. His experiences are more linked with the land use land cover analysis, ecosystem mapping, forest biomass carbon estimation, forest fire detection, climate change, vulnerability assessment, adaptation strategies, and GHG estimations. He worked with a wide range of organizations such as government agencies, development partners, international organizations, universities, bi-lateral organizations and consultancies. He worked with Kathmandu Forestry College for almost 16 years and contributed to delivering lectures and coordinating undergraduate and graduate programms. He also worked with International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) for 4 years till the end of 2014 as a Remote Sensing Analyst. He was also involved in the development works and research works where he contributed as Team Leader and GIS/RS Experts and Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator in wide spectrum of research themes ranging forest ecosystem, climate change, adaptation strategy, mountain environment restoration, GIS mapping, Climate smart village, forest restoration, urban forestry, geospatial technologies for the forest management, ecosystem based adaptation, REDD+ framework. He has also published remarkable journal papers, book chapters and books related to his fields of GIS, Forestry, and Environment science. He is also a good trainer in GIS and Remote Sensing and their application in Natural resource management.
