Abstract

The History of Built Environment, Interior Design and Urban planning has always responded to the epidemics to design architecture and urban spaces resisting the different virus and pathogens while preventing its spread. The architectural design strategies used in the past centuries including the Modernism was a reaction to create pandemic-free built forms and spaces, thus creating a healthy and sustainable built environment. The Italian piazzas, modernism, minimalism, decentralization of urban cities, urban renewal, etc were few of the design outcomes of pandemic-resisting environment. This research study will help the architects to understand and evaluate the design strategies used in the past to achieve a healthy sustainable built environment thereby adding progressive layers of protection against the virus. The future built spaces must be designed learning from our previous experiences and must progress in the right path towards sustainability.
