Implementation of an Adaptive Model of Steel Structure Building for the Prevention of Earthquake Effects

The goal of this research is to provide a novel way for improving buildings' earthquake protection by forcing them to adapt to the seismic wave. This is accomplished by having the building "ride" the earthquake wave like a person riding a wave during its occurrence. To approximate the concept of this study, a small-scale steel structure building model was conceived, produced, and tested. The model has shown to be effective, and the results have been remarkable. The large disparity in acceleration readings given for the vibration table, which simulates a shaking ground during an earthquake, and the building model at high vibrations, represents these findings. The building model was properly adapting to the tremors. The proposed methodology is recommended for high-value projects such as nuclear reactor construction. The author has successfully registered the invention as a provisional US patent issued by USPTO with filing application number 63049291.
