Abstract

It is known that Craig’s effect in a wide-area photoconductive cell with longitudinal photoconductivity and a non-linear light characteristic makes possible to estimate the quality of the image formed on its sensitive area. We suggest that the human retina works in the same way as the photoconductive cell. The suggestion makes possible to deduce from the physiological laws of visual perception the mathematical formulas for objective estimation of the image quality perceived by the human, on the one hand, and better understand the work of the human eye accommodation mechanism during monocular observation, on the other hand.
