The purpose of this chapter is to identify Mucuna pruriens seed extract's bioactive phytoconstituents and quantify its in vitro antioxidant activity.
Preliminary phytochemical analysis were done for the detection of bioactive constituents using standard procedures and the DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) test was used to evaluate the In vitro antioxidant activity.
Mucuna pruriens seed extract was subjected to a preliminary phytochemical study, which revealed the presence of major bioactive substances like phenols, flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, triterpenes, and phytosterols. The maximal DPPH radical scavenging activity of Mucuna pruriens seed extract in an antioxidant experiment was 72.95%, compared to a maximum activity of 93.24% for the standard control at the same dose (0.2 mg/ml). This is a blatant sign of the drug's potent antioxidant properties.
Mucuna pruriens seeds are abundant source of natural antioxidants and showed high DPPH radical scavenging properties and contains important bioactive phytoconstituents. such as phenols, flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, triterpenes, and phytosterols.
