Dr. Shigenori Ito
He works as a cardiologist in the Department of Cardiology and as the Director of Medical Fitness SHIN-SHIN Toyota, Sankuro Hospital, Toyota, Japan since February 2016. He received his M.D. from Nagoya City University in 1984 and his Ph.D. (Cardiology) from Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences in 1994. He has extensive experience in cardiology, especially interventional cardiology (coronary and peripheral artery disease), cardiac rehabilitation and sports medicine. He worked as a cardiologist at several affiliates of Nagoya City University from 1984-1996. He was a research scientist at Washington (DC) Hospital Center (Interventional Cardiology) from 1996-1998. He worked as an instructor at Nagoya City University (1998-2001). He was a director at Toyohashi Heart Center (2001-2004), Moriyama Municipal Hospital (2004-2007), and Nagoya City East Medical Center (2007-2016). As academic activities, he worked at the Angiographic Core Laboratory at Washington (DC) Hospital Center with Dr. Jeffrey J Popma in many randomized controlled trials in the field of interventional cardiology (1996-1998). He served as the director of the Japan Cardiovascular Imaging Core Laboratory (Japan CICL) (2007-2019). He was a clinical professor of cardiology at Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences (2004-2016). His main research area includes general cardiology, interventional cardiology, especially in invasive coronary imaging (QCA, OCT, IVUS, etc.). Recently, he is also involved in a research on exercise protocol such as high-intensity interval training for prevention of cardiovascular diseases. He loves running as a hobby as well as research work.
