Abstract

The goal of this research is to create a household flood vulnerability index (FVI) and measure flood vulnerability among Kelantanese households. The FVI is built in this work using Balica and Wright [1]’s FVI methodology, which integrates primary and secondary data. The primary data was gained from household questionnaires, while the secondary data was received from authorised organisations. The FVI was then used to assess household flood susceptibility in Kota Bharu and Kuala Krai, respectively. Kota Bharu, for example, is reported to be economically vulnerable to floods, as indicated by existing income discrepancies between households, but Kuala Krai is physically vulnerable to floods, owing to low-lying areas and intense rainfall patterns. The FVI, as a reliable set of vulnerability indicators, allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of an area from several viewpoints, hence strategically benefiting decision and policy makers, the general public, and vulnerable populations.
