Abstract

As a global dietary mainstay, particularly in South and South-east Asia, rice grapples with incessant flood threats. The game-changing SUB1 gene has robustly fortified rice against submergence through successful crossbreeding initiatives. This comprehensive review meticulously navigates the multifaceted landscape, examining the impacts of floods on rice, tracing the molecular evolution of the SUB1 gene, and unraveling associated biotic resistances.

Delving beyond SUB1, the spotlight now turns to the Leaf Gas Film 1 gene, offering a promising avenue for heightened submergence tolerance by facilitating essential underwater gas exchange. This genetic exploration extends to the ongoing quest for other Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs), necessitating sustained research endeavors to meet the escalating nutritional needs of our ever-expanding global population.

In the intricate tapestry of rice resilience, the strategic integration of these genetic factors emerges as a beacon of hope, ensuring a more secure future for this vital crop amidst evolving environmental challenges.
