Abstract

Mobile telecom industry services in India are a major contributor of national economy. Samsung’s Galaxy S8 enjoyed strong sales since its release last March, contributing to the company’s much-needed rebound. Research firm Gartner measured a 9.1 percent year-on-year growth of global smartphone sales. In India, the direct-to-home (DTH) technology was launched in 2003 and since then, it has grown phenomenally. At present, in the distribution industry, DTH holds 33 per cent market share, digital cable constitutes 29 per cent and about 38 per cent is dominated by analogue cable. Following paper discusses these two topics. First one is the mobile and mobile communications industry and second one is DTH / satellite cable industry and the associated challenges faced by these industries in India.
