Ancestral Beauty Secrets in Siddha Sytem of Medicine: A Review

Abstract

The historical record of cosmetic usage can be seen in ancient people and civilization's practical concerns, such as protection from both UV rays A and B; hierarchical social categories; or its delegates of beauty. The ancient use of beauty products is believed to have originated in India. Natural cosmetics refer to preparations of plants, flowers, and fruits from the treasure of the Siddha system of unparalleled wealth beautify and take care of their skin and their hair. In this present study, cosmetics applications are discussed below to understand the effort taken by the 'Siddhars' to evolve the Science of cosmetics. Natural ingredients originally ancestral beauty rituals such as skin tonics, sunscreen, skin lightening and exfoliating scrub, dry skin, pimple cure, lip balm, cure for dandruff, hair care product, dental care, depilatory, breast developers, cure for lice and nits and anti-aging herbs have been discussed as per the classical references and available scientific validations in Siddha system. It is concluded that cosmetic use was conceived by the ancient Siddha system and was practiced using raw materials found on both land and sea.
