Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the role of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on partial Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear. ACL injuries are one of the most common ligamentous injuries of knee. A randomized controlled experiment was conducted on athletes who had suffered a partial ACL damage and visited the Department of Sports Medicine at RIMS, Imphal. Patients with MRI diagnosed partial ACL tear (N=48) randomized into PRP injection plus rehabilitation, (n=24) and rehabilitation alone, (n=24) groups. There was no statistical significance for the baseline characteristics. There were statistically significant improvements in both the mean difference of the IKDC score (.001), Lysholm score (.001), and VAS (.007) at the end of the first month. At the end of 4th month, there were statistically significant improvement in both mean difference of IKDC score (.001), Lysholm score (.026) and VAS (.001). At the end of 8th and 12th month, improvement in mean difference of IKDC score, Lysholm score, VAS were observed however not statistically significant. PRP injection under ultrasound guidance along with conservative rehabilitation program might be a treatment choice for ACL partial tear.
