Abstract

A single herbal plant can be composed of thousands of botanical constituents or secondary metabolites, and the possibilities for new drug development and discovery are becoming increasingly evident. Initial phytochemical screens were performed using qualitative methods. Phytochemicals are chemicals that occur naturally in plants. The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of different phytochemicals, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, polyphenols, etc., in different extracts of the medicinal plant Chrysopogon zizanioides L. Our results showed that plant extracts contain various plant components such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and polyphenols. The study showed that, in further research, phytochemicals in Chrysopogon zizanioides L could significantly boost various activities of this plant.
