In vitro Micropropagation of Wild Blueberry Spread in Armenia

Abstract

The practice and the results of the activity unequivocally testify to the achievement of excellent results: the plants acquire more pronounced vitality characteristics (in comparison with the natural product of planting material), and in the case of fruit and berry crops, an increase in yield is achieved. All this unequivocally testifies in favor of the fact that clonal micropropagation is an advanced technology in horticulture. In vitro methods of biotechnology have been used for analyzing of germination stages and grow conditions of Vaccinium L. subgenera spread in Armenia (Vaccinium myrtillus L. and Vaccinium uliginosum L., which is involved in the Red Book of Armenia). These studies reveal that optimum conditions for in vitro germination of wild blueberry Vaccinium myrtillus and Vaccinium uliginosum seeds were: cold stratification 4-5 0C for 8 weeks, wherein the percentage of germinated seeds was 74.2 – 88.3%. According to our research, it is recommended to carry out a preliminary cold stratification of seeds. The composition of the medium's grow regulators affects the analyzed subgenera's capacity for shoot and root regeneration. This Vaccinium L. In vitro study can be applied to breeding and production techniques in the future.
