Abstract

Many natural products have been shown to have cytotoxicity and are used as chemotherapy agents for anticancer. The current study was designed to evaluate the cytotoxic activity of chemical components from the whole plant of Isodon ternifolius. A newly oxygenated spiroketone, isodonspiroketone (1) and four known ones (2-5) were isolated. Using NMR, MS, and CD spectrum data, the structure of isodonspiroketone (1) was discovered. Isolation of compound 3 from I. ternifolius has not yet occurred. In vitro tests were done on their cytotoxic effects on the cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231, HepG2, and A549. New compound (isodonspiroketone, 1) revealed moderate cytotoxic activities against A549, HepG2, and MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines with IC50 values of 23.84 ± 2.73, 27.77 ± 3.01, and 17.26 ± 1.61 \(\mu\)M, respectively, meanwhile, the others were inactive.
