Abstract

Acute poisoning is a widespread emergency that necessitates prompt management decisions for the best possible outcome. An individualised approach is the best way to achieve those results. Promoting awareness among healthcare professionals managing acute poisoning about the importance of incorporating pharmacokinetics and adhering to certain criteria when considering interventions such as activated charcoal, antidotes, or specific investigations may enhance their risk assessment strategies and management plans. The goal of this review is to address the main factors that should be considered when developing a customized care plan for poisoning victims. We conducted this review using relevant publications found through a thorough search of PubMed. The review took into account our views as experts from King Saud University's (KSU) Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC).
