Abstract

The current study was conducted to investigate the electrophoretic banding patterns of proteins in the parotoid gland extract and its secretion of the common Indian toad Bufo melanostictus. It is known that the poisonous secretions of the parotoid glands of the Bufo species contain a number of bioactive substances. The protein band patterns showed a characteristic pattern of six protein bands, some other additional bands with weak staining, and four protein bands in parotoid gland secretion and one other band with weak staining. A marker relative molecular weight of roughly 14–200 KDa was used to identify the protein patterns.  Rm values for protein bands were computed appropriately.  Both the protein patterns of the parotoid gland extract and its secretion demonstrated similarity in protein bands with minimal changes, according to the electrophoretogram.
