Abstract
Mixed oxides of spinel type NixCo3-xO4 with 0 < x < 2.5 have been synthesized via several methods. We used X-ray diffraction, the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller process, and scanning electron microscopy to investigate their physicochemical properties. Cyclic voltammetry, steady state measurements, and roughness factor were used to investigate their electrocatalytic performances. The oxides crystallise in a cubic spinel phase with a unit lattice parameter that increases with x and is a feature of the preparation process, according to the X-ray diffraction patterns. The double layer capacitance, which was measured using cyclic voltammograms, was used to estimate the electrochemical surface area of the powders. Pechini synthesis produces oxides with a greater surface area, higher electrical conductivity, and roughness electrochemical activity. The findings show that catalytic properties are essentially related to real surface area.
