Abstract

Sterile compounding, a meticulous process involving the preparation of medications under aseptic conditions, is essential for ensuring the safety and efficacy of injectable and ophthalmic drug products. The responsibilities of the compounding staff include overseeing the accurate identification, measurement, dilution, and mixing of compounded sterile preparations, in addition to purification, sterilization, packaging, sealing, labeling, storage, dispensing, and distribution. A comprehensive policy and procedure review process should be implemented to maintain ongoing compliance with evolving regulatory standards and best practices. This review should be conducted annually or more frequently to evaluate the effectiveness of the existing policies. By examining microbial data, competency assessments, and media-fill results, organizations can identify areas where policies or procedures may be outdated or inadequate.
