Colonization of plants from ocean to land lead to major evolutionary events and a transition from charophytes to the most complex angiosperms. It also resulted in several adaptations for reproduction, structural support, and prevention of water loss. The origin, adaptations, and evolution of land plants were mainly obtained from different periods of the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras. The chapter focuses on the evolutionary advancements in the tissue system, structural support, morphology, and reproduction of land plants. New genome sequencing works to reveal more evolutionary evidence of land plants.
