A brief description of the anatomy of the anorectal region, patient preparation and technique is presented. The anorectal region at CT colonography often presents interpretation challenges due to a range of potential pitfalls. Examples of common potential pitfalls are presented as knowledge of them should prevent CTC readers from missing rectal cancers, which account for a third of all cases of colorectal cancer.
