Abstract
The objective of this chapter is to conduct a techno-economic analysis of the solar system's use for Ferry Ro/Ro 500 GT lighting and cooling. The globe is grappling with the conundrum of a growing reliance on fossil fuels and a dwindling supply. Energy efficiency (EE) and the use of renewable energy (RE) must be used by all sectors to prepare for this circumstance.Ships, as users of oil energy, can benefit from solar energy sources, for instance for lighting and cooling, especially for RE in the transportation industry. Five actions must be done in order to achieve it. Establish the design requirements first. Next, ascertain the PV system's component specs. Third, determine how much electricity lighting equipment needs. Fourth, figure out how much electricity the cooling system needs. Fifth, compare the costs of diesel engines vs solar systems for propulsion systems. The findings demonstrate that all system components, including PV modules, charge controllers, batteries, and inverters, can be installed on the deck area of 148.8 m2 and provide the energy needed for lighting, cooling, and propulsion systems. This chapter can give a general overview of how PV systems are used in constructing environmentally friendly new or renovated ships.
