Indirect Bonding Procedures in Orthodontics

Abstract

Indirect bonding (IDB) is a technique in which orthodontic brackets or other attachments are bonded onto the dentition using a transfer device. IDB has been in orthodontic practice for many years. But still, most of the clinicians prefer to use direct bonding procedures. The main reason for this may be the technique sensitivity of laboratory and clinical procedures and the requirement for extra laboratory technical steps leading to increased cost of the treatment. Many researchers have tried to implement certain methods of indirect bonding procedures so that it can reduce the chair side time required for complete bracket placement with more precise bracket positioning. Moreover, the IDB procedures provide more patient comfort. Many techniques have been described in the chapter to simplify the IDB procedures.
