Abstract

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed healthcare, with a focus on advanced AI techniques for disease prediction using mHealth data from wearables and smartphones. This scoping review aims to explore the emerging use of AI-powered mHealth (AIM) in disease management and health promotion, summarizing research from the past two years. Using established frameworks, AIM literature from biomedical technology, AI, and information systems was reviewed. Searches were conducted in relevant databases using keywords. Articles on AIM were included, while technical-only AI articles were excluded. Out of 121 screened articles, 40 met the criteria. These articles addressed various aspects of AIM, such as detecting mental health issues and chronic conditions and enabling remote patient monitoring. AIM studies primarily focused on mental and physical health, often using proprietary datasets. In conclusion, AIM is a growing research field, offering accurate predictions for preventive healthcare. Recent AI techniques like federated learning and explainable AI can enhance AIM adoption and secure data sharing in the healthcare industry.
